Also includes a diary, 1887-1888, with more detailed notes about visits to textile machine shops and factories in Oldham, Huddersfield, and Manchester, England. Accompanied by a transcript of excerpts from the diary of 1887-1888 and a listing of patents held by Taft, plus a copy of a portrait of Taft.

Taft was superintendent and agent for the Whitin Machine Works, textile machinery manufacturers in Whitinsville, Mass., 1864-1888. He also served on the Board of Directors, 1870-1887. He is credited with implementing changes to almost the whole Whitin line of products through modification, adaptation, and experimentation.
